Prior to this blog, I tried to keep a journal on several different occasions. Their downfall, I think, was a lack of an audience. To this day, I don't know how Doogie Howser did it without just giving up.

American Idol Podcast

Posted by Thomas J. Brown at 1139 hrs

One of the things I've been pushing for at work is to start podcasting our news. Not that people can't get local news some other way, but I thought it would be nice to try being really progressive.

In discussions with the suits who run the station, the idea of podcasting other shows came up, most notably, American Idol. Now, Fremantle's contract is air-tight (and, to be honest, scary), so we didn't think we'd be able to do it. Still, it can't hurt to ask, right?

So up the ladder it went.

Here's the e-mail I received from the GM of the station:

I am sure it comes as no surprise, but the Fox network has turned down our proposal to podcast the finale of American Idol this coming week. Brian [Brady, who owns the station,] has been in New York this week with corporate officials and the Fox Board of Governors of which he is Chairman. He quietly floated the idea to a couple of high-rankers and the idea was shot down.

But, I think it caused them to pause for thought. I have a feeling they'll be working on that idea for future consideration.

A number of people have pointed out that they're stealing my idea, but I've chosen to look at it differently: that I, humble FOX affiliate employee, have potentially managed to change the entire FOX Network.

Not too shabby.
