I know, I know, I’m teasing you. I make a huge deal about working with Brianna on Monday, then I don’t blog about it that night. I apologize. I did work with her and she is hot, but I’m not sure it’s the kind of hot that I’m attracted to. She’s got more of a ‘California-girl’ look that is attractive, but that I’m not really attracted to. She’s really nice, though. I like working with her because she’s a fun girl, plus she can dish it out and she can take it. She enjoys joking around with everyone and is always ready to make the workplace pleasant. She’s a sophomore at the University of Washington and is majoring in broadcast journalism. She would like to become a reporter when she gets out of school.
Nothing else really interesting has happened. Not that I can think of, anyway. A new version of ALLO is up (v1.06) which features a new feedback form. I hope people will take the time to fill it out because it really helps me get a sense of what people are interested in. I also always appreciate knowing when things don’t display properly. If you’re going to send me that kind of report, however, be sure to include your OS and your browser and browser version. I want this site to become more interactive (even though I maintain that it’s for me and me only), but I can’t do that if people aren’t willing to interact. Speaking of new versions, I’ve already got a few ideas on ways I can improve the site. The big idea in my head right now is to make the most of the space in the window. Some sections of the site display a large white (blank) area at the bottom of the window (such as the blog you’re reading now as well as the feedback form and the bio). This is unattractive and a waste of space. A future version should see that problem taken care of; I hope to have it implimented sometime by the end of the week (although I tend to be pretty busy, so who knows).
Hooray! Morah has returned and I’m as happy as can be. It’s so nice to be able to cuddle up next to her and to go sleep with her in my arms. -) Hee hee, I’m so happy.
Well, today is the first day of summer school. I’m taking a screenwriting class that’s going to help ensure that my adaptation is a good one. This is important because the more good adaptation scripts, the more people will be accepted into the production classes. This has been the cause for quite a bit of stress in the film department, so hopefully this class will help. I’m excited to see who’s in the class. I want to know which majors are taking the class and I want to find out who the non-majors are that are taking the class.
The first thing I have to do this morning, however, is go to the dentist’s office and have my tooth fixed. I’ve got a long day ahead of me! Oh well, no rest for the wicked.
Wow, I really like the weekend crew. We had a lot of fun tonight and the atmosphere was really laid back. I ran camera for the B-block on (a little over half the show) for the 10pm show and almost the entire show at 11pm. I’m starting to get a feel for shot composition and how to read the rundown sheet. It’s cool that all the other camera people are so willing to share their little tips and tricks with me and teach me how to run the camera. It’s also interesting learning how to do the same thing several different ways from several different people and then choosing the best ways of doing things (that is to say, best insofar as that’s what’s most comfortable/natural to me). All in all it’s been a really fun first week and I look forward to the rest of the summer (not to mention getting paid, I still have to do that paperwork. Hmm…).
Morah is coming up tomorrow! Yay! I’m so excited and I just can’t hide it! I’m about to lose control and I think I like it! Oh, sorry, I get carried away like that sometimes.
I was just exposed the best direct advertising ever. There is this big billboard that faces the intersection on the corner of a street that I drive along to get to and from work. As I was driving home from work, I couldn’t help but notice the ad because it described what I had just done. The billboard (for Keystone Light) reads: NEVER BITTER (Unlike the guy you just cut off). It was perfect because I =had= just pulled into the lane in front of some guy. I laughed, it was wonderful.
I ran camera tonight and am getting better at it. It’s slow going, but I’m really just not used to how tight the shots are supposed to be. I can’t believe how tight they want them to be, it blows my mind. It’s pure madness if you ask me. Oh well. Hey, I think I get to work with Brianna (the hot new chick that I haven’t met yet) on Monday, so that’ll be a fun shift…
Woo hoo! What a great day at work today. Not only did I get to run prompter by myself again (I’m fast becoming a prompter pro), but everything went pretty well =AND= I got dinner. I guess if the weather is nice, Tom Sherry gets a local chef to come and cook on the show. Today we had roasted garlic cheese burgers with caramelized onions and two cheeses. Had I purchased this at the restaurant, I would have had to pay $8! On top of that we had a Mediterranean pasta salad which was excellent. And it was all free, how good is that?
Morah is coming back soon and I can’t wait! I miss her a lot. -( I miss hugging her and kissing her and cuddling with her. Now I’m just making myself sadder. Oh poo.
Well, the five and six o’clock shows last night went alright, but I screwed up a shot during the five. Actually, the five was pretty much crap. We had a switcher who was green (I guess, that’s what I divined based on what I heard people saying). Oh! And it was either during the five or the six, but Nadine was reading some story off the prompter and they updated it mid-story. What happens when you update the prompter is that the prompter tweaks out. So Nadine is reading along and all of a sudden the prompter tweaks out and she has no clue where she was or what she was supposed to be saying. To her credit and the credit of Randy Shaw as well, they both handled the situation smoothly.
So anyway, after work I’m supposed to go this guy Derek’s 30th birthday party. I met Derek in the EMAF dept. at EWU and he also works at KREM. So I drive out to his house and there’s food and it’s all fine and good (and holy christ is his sister hot, but she’s married), then they decide that they should go to Deja Vu, the strip club. I didn’t know if I wanted to go or not, but some wise little voice in my head told me that sitting in a darkened room with a bunch of friends staring at naked women all night was a =good= thing. So I went. And oh my god am I glad I did. It was awesome, there were all these hot chicks dancing around and being naked. And the best part is, it only cost me the $15 cover. Because I’m a cheap whore. I admit, however, that if I had any money, I would have bought a lap dance, but I didn’t have any money.
I love you honey. *big grin* -)
Holy shit, all of Spokane is going to die. Actually not, but it’s fun to think so (that’s sarcasm, folks). I went into work early this morning to help clean up a garage that they want to use and instead of it being a nice relaxing day at work where I manage to squeeze in more training, there’s a breaking story in the Spokane valley. The FBI had three search warrants for this guy who they suspected of building biological weapons, and they raided his house. So we run into the studio to get ready to go live with our breaking story. Who the hell is going to run the prompter? Why, me of course! Granted, I had only done it once before, but that’s ok, I’m up for the challenge. And some challenge it was, we used the prompter for about five minutes and the rest of the 30 minute broadcast was all ad-libbed. Sad, I know, but at least the anchor told me I did a good job afterward. So that made me feel good. Now that I think about it, I think there’s some pizza somewhere… I’m going to go look for food, I’ll let you know what happens.
Well, today was another fun day at work. I ran prompter for about half of the noon show and did a little camera work during both the 5 and 6 o’clock shows. “”It was all very exciting.”” Oh, I also tore scripts (which is almost as pointless as it sounds). That’s really all I did today.
Webcamcat is back online, so if you have AIM add him to your buddy list. Bear in mind that I’ve still got a lot of work ahead of me before he’s finished.
EDIT: Permanantly offline. -TJB 24 September 2004
