We recently found out that my father’s mother has been diagnosed with alzheimer’s. This news has been difficult to take and has greatly impacted our family; especialy since my father’s father also has alzheimer’s. With both of his parents having had alzheimer’s, we’re worried about the future of my father’s mental health (and, ultimately, of mine and my sister’s).
So I’m filling out thank-you cards that my mother gave me to send to both of my grandmothers, and as I’m slipping them into the envelopes, I notice who made the cards. Was it Hallmark? No. Shoebox Greetings? Nope. Forget Me Not? Uh-uh. In fact, it was none other than the =ALZHEIMER’S ASSOCIATION=! What the hell was she thinking? “Oh my, these cards with Renoir paintings on them are very pretty, I think I’ll give them these cards to send.” NO! You can’t do that! What kind of message are we sending to my poor grandmother? She’ll think we’re making fun of her, or trying to drop really lame hints, or something.
So what I’m thinking of doing is bringing this to my mother’s attention. Perhaps she just didn’t realize that these are alzheimer’s cards. I’ll keep you posted…0 People like this. Be the first!
