Not Strep Throat

I’ve been sick since Thursday. It started off as a sore throat that got worse throughout the day. I hardly slept Thursday night and by Friday morning, it was clear that I would be not only useless at work, but also carry a high risk of infecting other people.

Morah took me to the clinic in the hopes that it was strep throat, which is wasn’t. You’re probably thinking, “who hopes for strep throat?” Well, I do. If it had been strep throat, that would have meant that it was bacterial and the doctor could have prescribed me antibiotics, which would have actually done something. Since it’s viral, all I could do was wait it out. Ironically (or coincidentally? I still have trouble with those two), there was a poster in the exam room talking about how antibiotics are not always the answer.

After being sick all weekend, I went to work on Monday, but only stayed for about two and half hours before deciding to work from home for the rest of the day. I worked from home again on Tuesday, which helped considerably.

Now I’m back at work, which is going pretty well. I just blew my nose (I won’t get too detailed, but I will say that I feel much, much clearer now), which caused one of my ears to plug up, which is making me feel a little dizzy. It never ends, right? So here I am, sitting at my desk, trying to yawn and unclog my ear.

It’s not working.

Welcome to the joys of the flu bug that’s going around. You probably read on Kris’ blog how we’ve been sick these past couple of weeks. What the blog doesn’t tell you is that my flu turned into an acute asthma attack that damaged my lungs pretty bad. I had to be put on steroid inhalers to get the wheezing down. I think now, after two weeks of being sick, I can finally breathe normally. This flu season sucks!

I hope you get better and that your flu isn’t as bad!

  2. Wow, that really sucks! I’m glad to hear you’re doing better. My flu (or whatever it was) wasn’t anywhere near as bad as that. I got a flu shot back in… Well, whenever they were giving out flu shots. If the flu is what I had, the shot probably helped to mitigate the infection.

Morah (who also got a flu shot) said her throat is starting to hurt. I guess that’s part of the problem with living together in such close quarters. This is why we need a house with another bedroom; when one of us is sick, the other can be more or less quarantined.

  3. That sucks. This particular flu round is really bad. I missed a week of school and what equale two days of work. Mike, the rat bastard, was sick for two, three days tops. I think it’s because he’s been drinking Aloe Vera juice. It’s the only thing that’s really different about our diets and I usually have the stronger immune system. I had the bad respitory crud like Lindy, but mine didn’t nearly as bad as her’s. I hope everyone feels better soon.
