On The Move: Part 3

closePlease note: This post was published over a year ago, so please be aware that its content may not be quite so accurate anymore. Also, the format of the site has changed since it was published, so please excuse any formatting issues.

Tomorrow (Monday) is the big day; and not a moment too soon! Friday and Saturday have been the worst days so far for comment spam. On Friday, spammers left thirteen bogus comments! That’s the worst day so far. Yesterday, there were seven.

Tomorrow morning I’m going to back up the database, upload the interim index page, and initiate the DNS switch. As mentioned previously, once the DNS rolls over, I’ll install the newest version of MovableType, upload the database, and re-open the site. I’m hoping for no more than a day or two of downtime.

So, hopefully for real this time, see you on the other server!

Pull crap like that again, and I’ll block you from leaving comments. -TJB

  2. Looks like it worked! Welcome to Dreamhost! πŸ˜‰

  3. By the way:

Thought you might like that video. πŸ™‚

(and, as is the norm with YouTube videos, the good part is at the end)

Is there a FAQ or list of crap we aren’t allowed to pull? I don’t want my ability to comment blocked (especially since I can’t comment on my own neglected blog [or any other Blogger blog], and Wonderyak’s journal eats my comments, this is the only place I have left!)

  5. Does this mean it’s over? You’re moved?

And I’m also a bit curious what crap was pulled πŸ™‚

IT really was nothing, I’m surprised Thomas yanked it really, I just made a joke about a test of a Spaming system, wrote alot of “E’s”, with Breath written inbetween em, and then wrote a comclusion statement to the Spam testing system. Aparently Thomas did not find it the least bit amusing.

I guessed with our history at KEWU and having to sit through the damn Emergency Broadcasting System Tests that he would have had more humorous of a reaction… but unfortunately not. So, assuming that this post dosen’t get the axe as well, thast the whole story.

  7. Tom, are you drunk? I hope you don’t screw like you type (bonus points to anyone who knows the reference).

Tom’s comment was kind of funny, but mostly annoying (it had wrapping issues and was what I would consider egregious), so I deleted it.

Sadly, I’m not on the Dreamhost server yet. I had switched, then had to switch back to find out some info that I had forgotten to write down but needed in order to set up the blog on the new server. When I switched back to the old server, a spammer left a comment on my blog, which caused it to re-publish and the interstitial page was over-written.

It’s too late tonight for me to mess with it, but tomorrow morning (Tuesday), I’ll be at it again. Hopefully I’ll have everything I need this time.

Ah, real bonus points if you know what the original line was. ^_^

  9. Man, how annoying. At work, I can only connect to the new server, even though the DNS points to the old server. Everywhere else seems to point to the old server, so why not work? I know it isn’t just that the page is cached, but I haven’t bothered to look into it, so I don’t really know why it’s happening.

Anyway, looks like I have to wait yet another day to get this done…
