Quechup is Evil!

closePlease note: This post was published over a year ago, so please be aware that its content may not be quite so accurate anymore. Also, the format of the site has changed since it was published, so please excuse any formatting issues.

I’m not usually one for reposts, but this is an important warning that everyone should see.

If you get an e-mail invitation to join a social networking site called Quechup, delete the e-mail immediately. Do not reply. Do not click on or visit any links within the e-mail. Simply delete it.

According to BoingBoing, Quechup, “anally rapes your address book, and violates user trust by spamming all your contacts.”

The spammers keep coming up with new ways of tricking people into clicking on their nasty links, and this one is so convincing, that even a lot of wonks are falling for it. It wouldn’t work on me, however, since I refuse to join social networking sites (I honestly don’t see the point. Sorry, Alli and Nicole).

So be careful! Remember to use common sense and think before you open e-mails, forward virus warnings, and click on embedded links.
