Site Changes

Well, I’m back in the dorms as of today. I’ve got my webcam up and running, and I’m going to make an effort to keep it on most of the time. I’m also working on a way to allow visitors to the site to view streaming video live from my webcam. So instead of seeing a new image every 30 seconds, you’ll be able to watch “full” motion video. Full is in quotes for a number of reasons. For starters, the video is not at a full 30fps. Also, the speed at which the end-user receives data may degrade the video in the form of motion (in other words, if you’ve got a slow connection or I’ve got a lot of users watching me at once, your video may look choppier than if you were the only person watching on a cable or DSL modem).

That’s just one of the changes I have in store for the site. I’m also going to “dumb-down” the site a little so that more people can view it. Plus, the new DHTML popup is having issues with versions of IE 6, so it needs to go. I wish everyone had full .png support! That would make the site a lot faster. Oh well. Oh! As for new images, I still don’t have my new camera and my old one is as crappy and unwieldy as ever, so that’s going to have to be on hold for a while, but I’ve got a bunch of videos that I could encode and put on the site, so perhaps I’ll do that to make up for it.
