Friday Funday brings you some fun and interesting links from my travels around the internet during the previous week.

Unusual Homes []

Unusual is right! From the House of Mystery to a real life version of the house in which the Simpsons live, real estate agent Marlow Harris has an odd assortment of homes listed on her page.

Sister Jensen’s Words of Wisdom []

Sister Jensen’s Words of Ignorance is more like it. This “courageous Mormon woman’s” blog is all about how homosexuality is an “egregious sin”, despite the fact her son is probably gay.

Radioactive Consumer Products []

According to the site, “everything is radioactive. The question is, ‘How radioactive?'” Well, this page seeks to answer that question. Be sure you look at Glossy Magazines because, well, you’ll see why. I’ve been exposed to at least 13 of the products on this page. Hmm.

OBJECTIVE: 4kidz []

This is the kids section of the OBJECTIVE: Christian Ministries web site. All I can say is: what the fuck? Cheers to Phoenix for pointing this one out to me.

Balancing Point []

This video has been making its way around the internet, so I thought I’d share with you in case you hadn’t seen it yet. Most of us who have shot video have also, at some point, reversed the footage for the sake of some cheesy effect. Danny Brown takes reversed footage to a whole new level of cool in this video. I am =extremely= impressed by his 1337 balancing skillz.

  1. I think the second one is a joke (or is that supposed to be obvious?). It’s just too corny and ironic for words.

And as a Christian, I was embarrassed by the OBJECTIVE web site. Not in the message, but in how it is portrayed. “Ruby the lioness thinks Lambuel is cute and wants to marry him someday”??? “If you find an atheist in your neighborhood, tell a parent or pastor right away”??? or, my favorite, “Hopsiah, the Kanga-Jew”. These last two are particularly offensive. GAH!

  2. As an atheist (well, agnostic, really, but people often have misguided notions about what that is), I’m only slightly offended. Mostly I think it’s hilarious. Two things I noticed about the site in particular were (1) Professor Giraffenstein is telling Pepper the Moth some “scientific facts” about Christianity (which are laugh-out-loud stupid and unsettlingly wrong). I think it’s fair to say that Professor Giraffenstein is teaching Intelligent Design, since I.D. is, more or less, a science-esque version of Christianity. Let me be clear about how ironic this is: =GIRAFFES HAVE BEEN USED AS EVIDENCE THAT I.D. IS BUNK=. Here’s a link to a NYT article that says, “In a giraffe, that means a 20-foot length of nerve where 1 foot would have done.” Read it in context, it’s much better that way. (2) Kanga-Jew? If you’re going to pick an animal that doesn’t live in the Middle East and make it representative of Judaism, as least pick, oh I don’t know, a kinkajou! At least it already has the Jew sound in its name.

As for Sister Jensen’s Words of Wisdom, I haven’t yet decided if it’s for real or not. I hope to hell that it isn’t, but you just know that those people are out there.

  3. I think that the Sister Jenson site is a big joke. If you look at her profile, her favorite movies include “Sideways,” “All About My Mother,” and “Donnie Darko.” The big giveaway is that one of her favorite books is “The Picture of Dorian Gray,” written by a homosexual about homosexuals. And one of her interests is “Satire.” It is scary that there are people like that out there, but I don’t think she’s one of them.

For those unfamiliar with Quicktime, you can CTRL-Click the frame-back button, and it will play the video in reverse.

  5. Phoenix, very cool. Thanks for that FYI. That was fun watching the reverse (forward) version of Balancing Point.

  6. Kate

    Oh, Sister Jensen.
