And by weight loss shake, I mean the dance, not the beverage (although, I do usually have a weight loss shake for breakfast).

Why am I dancing the Weight Loss Shake? Because today is the day that I lost my first ten pounds! It took a little over a month (I started on 30 June) and my weight has fluctuated a bit, but it has consistently gone down from week to week. Morah and my parents have both commented that I look slimmer, and even I can see it in the mirror.

I have been exercising, although nowhere near as frequently as I had intended. Still, I usually manage three or four days a week. There’s definitely something to be said for counting calories, though. If I had continued to eat the way I have been for the past… Several years, all that exercising wouldn’t have done much good.

So there you go, the counting calories thing is working. How many of are also on weight management plans? What steps are you taking (or wish you were taking) to get into better shape? Any tips you can share with the rest of us?

  1. Congrats on 10 pounds!

Before I was pregnant, I was trying to lose a little. I actually found a few of the SlimFast bars that didn’t taste too bad, and seemed to fill me up at least as well as the shakes, and were more enjoyable (there’s something to be said for chewing).

What was finally making the difference for me was exercising. I never really did before, not since I ran (slowly) track in high school. And I had actually lost a few pounds…and then I got pregnant! I’ve become fairly good at eating healthy (watching carbs, mainly, but not overdoing it like I think Atkins does), but I think exercise has been the big thing for me. I’m still doing it, too. Hoping it will help me get back on track sooner after the baby comes.

  2. Congrats on the 10 lb. weight loss! That’s awesome. I lost my 10 lbs. about a year ago by simply eating less of everything I already eat – no more eating until I’m completed stuffed. I have a Wal-Mart brand Slimfast shake every weekday for breakfast and eat like normal the rest of the day, and I haven’t had a problem gaining it back. =) Good job on the exercise too – 3 to 4 days a week is awesome!

Way to go on the first 10!

Counting calories is the best way to go. I’ve been doing that and working out six days a week (not as intense lately) and have lost about 30 pounds since May. The way I count calories is a little different though. Richard Simmons (yes the fruity guy in short shorts) had a device a couple of years back called the “Food Mover”. How it works is it breaks up your calories into the percentage of each type of calories you should eat each day. So, for example, 1600 calories is six carbs, six proteins, two dairy, four fruits, unlimited veggies, and two fats. Then you use his guide to determine what is one of each thing. It’s really a great system that once you get used to, it’s easy to gauge each meal. The only trick is you have to watch sauces.

Well, I wish you continued success and hope this helped!
